Last weekend, Emma met a couple of old friends at Sea Ranch, another historically significant place in the scope of utopian developments, this one on the other side of the country, in coastal Northern California. She went with her friend Kelsey Keith, who is somewhat of an expert on Sea Ranch after she “spun a Charles Moore obsession into a 13,000-word composite oral history on the Sea Ranch, California’s most bucolic planned community that has more than a smidgen of narrative drama”. Kelsey is also the producer of one of our favorite podcasts, Nice Try! the podcast about the perpetual search for utopian living. It’s so, so good. Season two just came out and it’s all about interiors, and "interrogates the lifestyle technologies and products that determine the ways we clean, cook, exercise, and sleep -- as we attempt to sail to the unreachable shore of a better life”. Serene scenes from Sea Ranch below, including a few of the newly restored Sea Ranch Lodge which features an oceanfront dining room, bar and lounge, café and general store. Also, Lawrence Halprin's home and outdoor kitchen and studio 💛 endless inspiration.
