Everyday Oil Team's Early Mornings

March 14, 2025 1 Comment

Daylight Saving Time! We spring forward, lose an hour of sleep, but gain some well-deserved evening light. Sometimes the transition can feel a little challenging, but springier days are nearing, and that feels pretty good.

Team Everyday Oil is reporting on their ideal early mornings and favorite mugs.

NICK

My favorite thing to do is drive to the river for a quick cold plunge. The water is usually between 40 and 60 degrees fahrenheit, so you have no choice but to really wake up. It’s always nice to start the day off in a place I could imagine was wild and secluded, even if it wasn’t. I can feel the rocks and hear the waterfall and the trees block the nearest house. If I go every week, I really feel tapped into the changing seasons; watching what's growing or not growing. I wait to enjoy my coffee and have it when I’m back in the car. This is my favorite travel mug; it keeps it nice and warm.

HILLARY

I love a quiet and slow morning and have been trying to wake up before anyone else in the house to do morning pages. I’ll find my favorite mug and drink coffee (this 3rd wave mug is THE best, a pleasure to hold to sip from and to look at) and let all the thoughts out onto the paper. If I get into a good rhythm, I can write a few pages before I need to switch gears. In the winter time, I’ll listen to bird songs or something very relaxing to ease me into the day.

BEN

It’s nice to see the sun in the morning, so I try to get outside. Most days, I’ll take my dog on a morning walk. If it's cold, she wears this coat to keep her warm. Fellow makes my favorite travel tumbler, it keeps things hot all day and has a simple design that’s easy to clean. I’m not sipping on my drink throughout the day, so I appreciate the wide opening.

KAYLEE

I found this infrared bulb about 10 years ago and used it for skin support. Now that I have an Omnilux mask (I have the men's one–looks nicer imo and has deeper wavelengths of near-infrared light (1072nm)), the bulb has become the best early morning cuddling spot. It gets really warm, so I cozy up under it with my weenier dogs on the coldest mornings. For morning beverages, I’m using my Helen Levi Beach Daily mug.

SAM

My ideal morning is getting up before my family and working on music for an hour and a half. Solid headphones are key and I’ve been using these ones from Sony for, like, 15 years. I’ll buy new ones when the cables get worn or kids get a hold of them. When you know what they’re supposed to sound like you have to stick with a good pair. My coffee is usually in my favorite thrift store mug, it has flowers on it.

JACKSON

A good morning is taking my dog on a walk to my neighborhood coffee shop, Battlecat, in West Asheville for a 16oz drip. A really good morning is catching pickup soccer, you get to play with different people than you normally would, all ages, all skills. My mug of choice is this KINTO to go mug.

EMMA

Lately my favorite mornings are when it is warm enough to take my baby girl to the park. She just learned to walk and is VERY excited about the slide and seeing other kids. She calls them all “baby” no matter how old they are. My favorite mug is made by Melissa Weiss.

Most mornings I try to wake up before my family so I can drink a cup of coffee in bed and write in my Five Minute Journal. My four-year-old son usually finds me here about half an hour into this ritual and snuggles in for a nap while I finish up my coffee and rouse myself for the day. It’s the best!
